New Home Buyer Protection Act

This legislation makes home warranty coverage mandatory for new homes in Alberta. The Act applies to single-family homes, multi-family homes, duplexes, condominiums, manufactured homes and recreational properties where permits were pulled starting February 1, 2014. All new homes must have minimum warranty coverage of one year on labour and materials, two years on delivery and distribution systems, five years for building envelope, and ten years for major structural components.
